Euro NCAP & DFRS join forces for safer roads in Europe

SEVILLE, SPAIN – Euro NCAP signs a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Data for Road Safety (DFRS) during the 16th ITS European Congress 2025, hosting discussions on the future of road safety and the role of advanced technologies in achieving it.

The 16th ITS European Congress, held in Seville, Spain from June 18 – 21, brought together leading industry experts, policymakers, and stakeholders from all over the world to discuss the latest advancements in intelligent transportation systems. The focus of this year’s congress was on improving road safety by leveraging cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, and connected vehicles.

In line with this objective, Euro NCAP, the leading authority on vehicle safety and crash testing, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Data for Road Safety (DFRS). The MoU was signed by Euro NCAP Secretary General Michiel van Ratingen and DFRS Executive Director, Pablo Davila, during a ceremony held at the congress.

The MoU aims to enhance cooperation between Euro NCAP and DFRS to promote the exchange of data, knowledge, and expertise in the field of road safety. It also emphasizes the need for collaboration in developing new testing methods and standards, as well as encouraging the adoption of new safety technologies in vehicles.

Michiel van Ratingen, in his address, highlighted the importance of this collaboration in the context of rapidly evolving vehicle technologies. He stated, “Euro NCAP has always been at the forefront of promoting vehicle safety. However, with the rise of new technologies, it is imperative for us to adapt and evolve as well. This MoU with DFRS allows us to combine our expertise and resources to further enhance road safety.”

Pablo Davila also highlighted the significance of this partnership, saying, “At DFRS, we believe that data is the key to unlocking the full potential of road safety. By joining hands with Euro NCAP, we hope to promote the use of data in developing new safety measures and ultimately, save more lives on our roads.”

The signing of the MoU was witnessed by numerous dignitaries and attendees, including representatives from the European Commission and the automotive industry. It was hailed as a significant step towards advancing road safety and was met with great enthusiasm and optimism.

The 16th ITS European Congress also featured a series of engaging discussions, presentations, and demonstrations on the latest advancements in intelligent transportation systems. These included sessions on topics such as automated driving, smart mobility, and sustainability, all of which played a crucial role in promoting safer and more efficient transportation networks.

The congress also saw the exhibition of cutting-edge technologies and solutions from various companies and organizations. These included demonstrations of advanced driver assistance systems, connected vehicles, and virtual simulation tools, all aimed at improving road safety.

The successful conclusion of the 16th ITS European Congress 2025 has set the stage for even greater advancements in the field of intelligent transportation systems, with a strong focus on road safety. The MoU signed between Euro NCAP and DFRS is a testament to the commitment of industry leaders towards ensuring safer roads for all.

As we look towards the future, it is evident that collaborations such as this will play a crucial role in achieving the goal of zero fatalities on our roads. With the rapid integration of advanced technologies in vehicles, it is essential to have a strong partnership between organizations that drive innovation and set high safety standards. The MoU between Euro NCAP and DFRS is a significant step in this direction, and we can only expect more positive developments in the years to come.
