On November 15, 2023, in Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, serving as the National Coordinator for the Defense of the Fourth Transformation, emphasized the crucial role of Mexican workers’ well-being in supporting the success of entrepreneurs and the advancement of the nation. At the XV National Ordinary Congress of the Autonomous Confederation of Mexican Workers and Employees (CATEM), Sheinbaum Pardo announced the formalization of a collaboration with the organization as part of endeavors to engage various sectors of society in reshaping the country’s public arena.
During her speech, Sheinbaum Pardo highlighted the current favorable conditions in Mexico and stressed the importance of avoiding regression. Instead, she advocated for continuous efforts to expand labor rights across the nation. “Our primary objective is clear: we reject a return to a past marked by corruption and privilege; instead, we are committed to propelling the Fourth Transformation of Mexico’s public life forward,” she asserted.
Following the induction of the initial Labor Committees for the Defense of the Fourth Transformation within CATEM, with plans for more than 10,000 committees, Claudia Sheinbaum reiterated the aim of ensuring ongoing access to a dignified life for workers. She emphasized the significance of collaboration with entrepreneurs, drawing inspiration from President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s principle of “prioritize the poor for the benefit of all” for Mexico’s ongoing progress.
“I pledge to safeguard the wages and labor benefits of Mexican workers… Therefore, our commitment is to advance collectively for the well-being of workers and our nation,” she concluded.
In this context, Pedro Haces Barba, senator of the Republic and general secretary of CATEM, briefly summarized the achievements resulting from the collaboration between labor representatives and the 4T government, including the increase in the minimum wage, expansion of vacation days, and elimination of outsourcing, among others. He emphasized the importance of aligning every decision with the principles of the 4T movement, championed by Claudia Sheinbaum, to continue advocating for Mexican workers.
“During this fifteenth ordinary congress, Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum reaffirmed our commitment to the principles of the Fourth Transformation during these crucial defining moments,” he celebrated.
Senator Ricardo Monreal emphasized the necessity of maintaining a strong government-worker relationship to further enhance labor rights, stressing that this can only be achieved under Sheinbaum Pardo’s leadership.
“At this juncture, forging a pact and alliance with Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo is essential,” he emphasized.
The XV National Congress of CATEM was attended by Governor Mara Lezama of Quintana Roo, Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila of Baja California, as well as Governors Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla of Michoacán, Sergio Salomón of Puebla, and Miguel Navarro of Nayarit. Mario Delgado Carrillo, national president of Morena, was also present.
