Former NL Cy Young Winner Gunning for Same Award in AL This Season

After a long and grueling journey, Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom has once again proven himself to be a force to be reckoned with on the mound. Despite facing yet another injury setback, deGrom has returned to the game with a vengeance, showing the world that he is still a Cy Young Award level pitcher.

DeGrom’s journey has been nothing short of remarkable. From his humble beginnings as a walk-on at Stetson University, to being drafted by the New York Mets in 2010, deGrom has always had to work hard to prove himself. And prove himself he did, winning the National League Rookie of the Year award in 2014 and the Cy Young Award in 2018 and 2019.

But as any athlete knows, injuries are a part of the game. And unfortunately for deGrom, he has had his fair share of them. In 2016, he underwent surgery for ulnar nerve transposition in his pitching elbow. Then in 2017, he dealt with a stress fracture in his scapula. And just last year, he was sidelined with a strained right forearm.

Many doubted whether deGrom would be able to bounce back from yet another injury. But those doubters were quickly silenced when he made his return to the mound on May 9th against the Arizona Diamondbacks. In typical deGrom fashion, he dominated, striking out nine batters in five innings and allowing only one run.

Since then, deGrom has continued to dominate his opponents, proving that he is still one of the best pitchers in the game. In his first 11 starts of the season, he has a 1.08 ERA, 111 strikeouts, and only 11 walks. He has also recorded double-digit strikeouts in nine of those 11 starts, a feat that has only been accomplished by three other pitchers in MLB history.

But it’s not just the numbers that make deGrom a Cy Young Award level pitcher. It’s his sheer dominance on the mound. His fastball consistently reaches triple digits, and his slider and changeup are nearly unhittable. He has a fierce competitive spirit and a relentless work ethic, always striving to improve and be the best.

DeGrom’s success in his return from yet another injury is a testament to his determination and resilience. Many players would have let the setbacks and doubts get to them, but not deGrom. He has used them as motivation to come back even stronger.

And the Texas Rangers are reaping the benefits of having deGrom on their team. His leadership and presence in the clubhouse have been invaluable, and his performance on the field has helped the team to a strong start to the season.

But deGrom’s success goes beyond just his individual achievements. He is an inspiration to all athletes, showing that with hard work and determination, anything is possible. He is a role model for young players, teaching them to never give up and to always push through adversity.

As the season progresses, all eyes will be on deGrom to see if he can maintain his Cy Young level performance. But one thing is for sure, he has already proven that he is a true champion, both on and off the field.

In conclusion, the success in his return from another injury has shown that Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom is still a Cy Young Award level pitcher. His determination, resilience, and sheer dominance on the mound have solidified his place as one of the best pitchers in the game. And as he continues to defy the odds and inspire others, there is no doubt that he will continue to be a force to be reckoned with for years to come.
