On June 7, 2024, a ceremony was held in Lubango, Huíla province, to deliver the certificate for the demined area along the 400 kV Huambo – Lubango electricity transmission line.
The event was attended by key figures, including the Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges; the Minister of National Defense, Former Combatants, and Veterans of the Homeland, João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade; the Secretary of State for Energy, Arlindo Carlos; the Vice-Governors of Huíla and Huambo; the representative of the African Development Bank for Angola and São Tomé; along with various officials from both ministries and other invited guests.
Upon receiving the certificate, Minister João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade thanked the Ministry of Energy and Water for their dedication, which led to this achievement, underscoring the significance of the ceremony. Minister João Baptista Borges also expressed his gratitude for Minister João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade’s commitment, which was crucial to the ceremony’s success, and highlighted the critical role of demining in advancing the project.
Minister Borges noted that the primary objective is to boost energy capacity to meet regional demands. He commended the demining efforts, which are vital to the success of the country’s various electrification projects. Additionally, the Minister pointed out that the Huambo-Lubango transmission line project will generate significant employment opportunities for young people.
A symbolic vehicle handover to the on-site demining team also took place during the event.
It is noteworthy that the 400 kV Huambo-Lubango Electricity Transmission Line project will be executed in two phases, covering a total distance of 343 km.
