Claudia Sheinbaum, the National Coordinator for the Defense of the Fourth Transformation, stated upon formalizing a broad coalition with the Confederation of Autonomous Workers and Employees of Mexico (CATEM): “We are committed to moving forward together to continue the transformation of the country initiated by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.”
She explained that what fundamentally unites this coalition is to advance with the 4T, seeking the unity of the people and the continuation of the transformation of Mexico’s public life. She expressed her satisfaction in formalizing this coalition during the XV National Ordinary Congress of CATEM, where she emphasized the importance that if Mexican workers prosper, so do entrepreneurs and the country as a whole.
Sheinbaum pledged to defend workers’ salaries and benefits, inviting them to join her in the pre-campaign starting on November 20. She emphasized that the country is in one of its best moments and it is crucial to avoid stepping back in time, urging to continue striving to improve labor rights.
Sheinbaum highlighted that during López Obrador’s administration, a 36-year stagnation in the minimum wage was broken, and she affirmed that next year it will increase even more, as promised by the President.
The presidential pre-campaign phase begins
She also announced that next Monday she will start the formal process for the beginning of her presidential pre-campaign for 2024. She emphasized that she will continue to advocate for the workers of Mexico.
During the meeting, the unionized members of CATEM committed to establish over 10,000 “Labor Committees for the Defense of the Fourth Transformation of Mexico”, to which Claudia Sheinbaum administered the oath.
At the celebration of the 15th anniversary of CATEM, attended by over 20,000 workers, Claudia Sheinbaum was honored with a new corrido performed by a mariachi group, which says:
